For over two Decades Mr. Uner Kirdar of the United Nations Development Programme

had a very inspiring relationship with Sri Chinmoy

and the Peace Mediation Group at the United Nations.

U THANT PEACE AWARD GIVEN to• The United Nations Development Programme, for its sustained practical commitment to world progress through integral development and its dedication to the fulfilment of each nation’s unique potentialities. The leader of The Peace Meditation at the United Nations, Sri Chinmoy, presented the U-Thant Peace- Award this year to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The presentation was made March 19 during a ceremony on U Thant Island, in the East River. Dr. Uner Kirdar, who accepted the award on behalf of UNDP, said: “You are granting us the biggest honour.” The award, he added, belongs to UNDP field workers and those “whom we are privileged to serve.” In a subsequent letter to Sri Chinmoy, the head of UNDP, Bradford Morse, wrote: “This award . . . gives us new inspiration, dedication and energy to serve in the best manner millions of human beings in poor countries . .

A Programe was held where Mr. Uner Kirdar of UNDP addressed the members of the Peace Meditation Group on the Human Dimensions of Development. The Group Honoured Mr Kidarwith song that Sri Chinmoy had composed in his honour.

For more than half a century, Sri Chinmoy was a tireless great leader of the spiritual world who supported strongly and wholeheartedly the noble ideals and goals of the United Nations. In this area, he was a true global citizen and a sleepless oneness-pathfinder. I am sure that his ideals, commitments and lessons will always be pursued by his followers and members of the Peace Meditation Group, at the United Nations as well as all over the world.
