Is a Spiritual Role for the United Nations Practical?

The United Nations is playing a most important role in seeking to establish world harmony, world peace, world oneness, world divinity, world perfection and God-satisfaction.

The outer world says that the United Nations is not strong enough, but the inner world has something else to say. The inner world says that the real capacity of the United Nations is its willingness and its inner cry.

The United Nations is crying for world peace; and this very act of crying is its real capacity. The way.of oneness that cries to lead us to the ultimate destination; this is the United Nations. The cry itself is its capacity and this capacity is of supreme importance.

True, this capacity cannot or does not meet with satisfaction-reality all at once. I have the capacity to run, let us say, but I am not at the destination. I have just left the starting point; my goal is still ahead. Capacity does not mean immediate success or immediate victory. Capacity is continuous movement that eventually leads us to our destined goal. Right now the United Nations is a cry, a movement, a forward march, a forward adventure.

A runner is running. Just because the runner has not reached the goal, this does not mean that the runner will fail. There is an appointed hour and at that appointed hour, which is God’s choice hour, the inner dream-the real dream-of the United Nations will be transformed into reality. That dream is God’s necessity to bring about world peace. This is the inner necessity of the soul of the United Nations and also its God-ordained responsibility.

The world may notice a yawning gulf between the principles of the United Nations and the realities of the world. But the world must remember that in the transformation of principles into realities, time is a great factor. The world is old, and it has old ideas, old idiosyncracies, old propensities. The United Nations is young, very young.

If we say that the United Nations is the result of the twentieth century awakening, then we are mistaken. The United Nations is the outgrowth of the inner awakening of human beings from time immemorial.

We expect everything from the United Nations child, but we forget that the child has to grow. If we nourish the child, encourage the child and appreciate him for what he already has offered, only then will the progress of the child be satisfactory.

The United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are the true manifestations of humanity’s spiritual values and inner oneness. In these lofty principles we find a divine code of ethics for our time and times to come.

With the guiding light that shines through the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the world is destined to attain harmony and peace, for inside the United Nations vision, reality looms large. The fulfilment of the United Nations ideals is an inevitability, but that hour will dawn only when humanity wholeheartedly and unreservedly accepts the message of the United Nations soul.

A spiritual goal for the United Nations: Is it practical?

Without the least possible hesitation I venture to say that it is highly practical. It is not only practical, but also practicable. Something more: it is inevitable. We have to know what the spiritual goal for the United Nations is. Its goal is to become ultimately the saviour of the world’s imperfection, the liberator of the world’s destruction and the fulfiller of the world’s aspiration.

My heart tells me that the United Nations has a divine ideal. My soul tells me that this ideal is going to be transformed into the supreme reality. Soulful concern is the essence of the United Nations ideal. Fruitful patience is the substance of the United Nations ideal. Supernal fulfilment will be the essence of the United Nations reality. Sempiternal perfection will be the substance of the United Nations reality. What is reality? Reality is the inseparable oneness of Infinity’s smile and Eternity’s cry.

To be sure, peace is not the sole monopoly of Heaven. Our earth is extremely fertile. Here on earth we can grow peace in measureless measure.

In our conscious awareness, in our conscious seeing of God’s Presence, in our conscious feeling of inseparable oneness with Him, we shall establish here on earth, here and nowhere else, the Kingdom of Light, Truth, Peace and Delight.

Spirituality is the fount of world peace. Spirituality is the fulfilment Of all responsibilities.
