to the legendary Maestro Yehudi Menuhin

Programme Notes

          Today’s programme will include a video presentation, tributes by members of the international community and the performance of several songs composed by Sri Chinmoy dedicated to Maestro Yehudi Menuhin.

          We are especially grateful to Ms. Edna Michell, the Maestro’s lifelong musical associate, who will be performing two of the Maestro’s favourite pieces, along with talented young performers from the Mannes College of Music.

About Edna Michell

Distinguishing herself as both a soloist and chamber musician throughout the world, Edna Michell is recognized for her pioneering efforts in expanding the violin and chamber music repertoire. She began her public performance career at the age of 9, received the Yehudi Menuhin Scholarship and undertook further studies in London with Max Rostal and Yehudi Menuhin. She founded the Cantilena Chamber Players, founded and directed the Adirondack Music Festival, founded the Helena Rubenstein Concerts and collaborated with Yehudi Menuhin on an ongoing project based on the theme of compassion through music.She is a faculty member of Mannes College of Music in New York City and has taught at the Yehudi Menuhin Schools in England and Switzerland.;
