you and your children to a Halloween Benefit

Party for UNICEF.

 

EX-PRESS BAR – 3rd Floor, Secretariat

Friday evening, Oct. 29,  6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

 

Refreshments will be served and children are encouraged to wear their native costumes or Halloween costumes.

 

Tickets – $2.00 for adults, .75 for children

 Tickets will go on sale on Wednesday and Thursday, the 27th and 28th of October on the 4th floor of the Secretariat.

Report of Event – Excerpt from Bulletin “Meditation at the UN”  – Nov 1976

On 29 Octobcr 1976, the Meditation Group at the U.N., in conjunction with the staff members of UNICEF, invited children of the U.N. community and their parents to a Benefit party for UNICEF in honour of Universal Children’s Day and “Trick-or- Treat”for UNICEF.

In keeping with traditional celebrations around the world*, the evening opened by leading the children in a short non-denominational prayer.

Puppeteer Bill Baird and Ashrita the Magician then entertained and delighted the children.

Mr. Henry Labouisse, Executive Director of UNICEF, sent the Group the following note of appreciation.

Thank you very much for your letter of November 23rd with which you were kind enough to enclose a check to the order of UNICEF in the sum of $40.00. I note that this represents the proceeds of the party which was given on October 29th by the Meditation Group at he U.N. and some staff members of UNICEF.

We are most grateful to the Meditation Group and to all of the others who participated in this event It is not just the money, but the wonderful feeling which your group expresses.

I was sorry that I was unable to attend the party this year. I remember with great pleasure the first party given in 1975**.

* Aspects of the celebration of  Universal Children’s Day around the world,

  • In AUSTRALIA, On Universal Children’s Day, a Church service has been conducted by the Children themselves, including readings from Baha”i, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim Faiths.
  • In NORWAY there are church services and in Kenya a special prayers are offered.-
  • In TRINIDAD ceremonies stressing inter-racial and inter religious friendships are held.
  • In YUGOSLAVIA at noon on Children’s Day 10,000 children meet in the main square of the capital for 5 minutes of silence to express their desire for peace.
