Here we would like to share historical experiences so that, in the future, individuals or groups can adapt the many programmes to their own situations. Past efforts of the Peace Meditation Group can ignite enthusiasm and support for present initiatives

The variety and number of programmes and events the group has organized of co-sponsored over the decades are rich and valuable examples for others to build on.

01. Introduction

• There were many numerous programmes in the intervening years between 1970 and he present, And members also cooperated with other organizations offering similar inspiration in my offices or wider UN Community.
• Multi-subject Cross reference: Some events or programme photos could reasonably be listed in multiple categories. There is some indication if more information about a specific event can be found in additional part of booklet..

 

“Let each religion play the role of a flower. Let us make a garland of these divine flowers…” – Sri Chinmoy, “The Song Universal,” 26 November 1968, Church Center for the United Nations, in The Garland of Nation-Souls.

The interfaith appreciation that Sri Chinmoy demonstrated by example in the 1970s encouraged many in the UN and interfaith communities. He supported the participation of the Peace Meditation in such observances through the years as expressions of unity and respect for various traditions. This support could be continued.

It was deeply meaningful when religious leaders again stood together in silent, prayerful unity at the front of a large UN conference room in observance of Sri Chinmoy’s passing in 2007, acknowledging his many decades of service to the United Nations and to the goal of world-oneness.

10. ART EXHIBITS and Related Events

Beginning in 1985, an annual Peace Run for the United Nations from the early UN site in Lake Success to NY Headquarters drew many enthusiastic participants carrying their national flags and the great blue-and-white flag of the United Nations.

WALK for the UN

Additionally, photos and news clippings from 1983 to 2001 document delegates and staff carrying a ceremonial Preamble of the UN Charter in a nation-by-nation relay of Peace Walks around the United Nations rose garden.

Charter Day in June,  UN Day in October, Opening of the UN General Assembly in September  and International Day of Peace (originally in October now September)

These heartfelt efforts continue to offer beautiful inspiration. People take pride in celebrating their own country’s uniquely uplifting contributions by participating in inspiring global events.

Fun Runs and 1-mile races

were organized for  staff, delegates and their children  at NY Headquarters.

Tennis Tournament

There were even tennis tournaments for staff held in Queens, NY—all to create a family feeling.
