Since 1983 United Nations delegates and staff have taken a moment from their busy schedules to express their hopes for world peace by participating in the Peace Walks. During the ceremony, the Preamble to the United Nations Charter is carried in a silent, nation by nation relay around the North Garden. Each national group carries the Preamble in turn before passing it to the next. This year, as in the past, a number of Ambassadors will lead their national group. You are warmly invited to join in your country’s Peace Walk (see time below) and in the International Peace Walk at 1:55 pm. For information please call Mr. S. Paradis

Sri Chinmoy : The Peace Meditation at the United Nations
===============================================
=========================================
Thank you for your participation in the Peace Walk for United Nations Charter Day. May each
step we take in silence help us renew our dedication to the ideals of the United Nations
Charter and bring us closer to a lasting peace on earth.
=============================================
The outer message of the United Nations is peace.
The inner message of the United Nations is love.
The inmost message of the United Nations is oneness.
– Sri Chinmoy
From the actual event:
Since 1983 . U.N. Delegates and Staff have expressed their Hopes for Peace by joining in the Peace Walks here at the United Nations.
Over nearly two decades we have often reflected on the preamble of the Charter at the conclusion of the International Peace Walk. We are requesting individuals from the following countries present today to read a section from the Charter.

- And the Peace Mediation at the United Nations
We take this opportunity,to offer our gratitude to Sri Chinmoy who has inspired this and so many other initiatives associated with Peace. as many of you Are aware, he has been leading the Peace Mediation here since 1970.
- To close the programme we have chosen a reading from his book “Inner and Outer Peace” in which he speaks of the “United Nations as of Force for Peace”.
- This section begins with a Quote from Socrates: “I am not an Athenian, nor am I a Greek. I am a citizen of the World.” The imagery of walking and flowers seems quite appropriate for our event today in this garden ..
- We end the reading where Sri Chinmoy quotes from the Mid Eastern Philosopher Kahil Gibran.
