Subramuniya Swami receives U thant Peace Award 2000 Aug 25
Filed under Spiritual figure and plays | U Thant Peace AwardSivaya Subramuniyaswami was presented the U Thant Peace Award by Sri Chinmoy on August 25, 2000, in the Dag Hammarskjold Auditorium at the United Nations in New York.
Subramuniyaswami was in New York as a Hindu delegate to the Millennium Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders which opened at the UN on August 28.
The U thant Peace Award has previously been bestowed by “Sri Chinmoy: the Peace Meditation at the United Nations” upon Nelson Mandela, Mikhail Gorbachev, Pope John Paul II, Mother Teresa, the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu and Dada JP. Vaswani.

First offered in ‘1982, the award is given to individuals and organizations who have exemplified the lofty spiritual ideals of the late United Nations’ Secretary-General U Thant and implemented those ideals in the tireless pursuit of world peace.
