Addwitiya Roberta Flack performed some of her favourite songs

at a programme celebrating the 19th anniversary of Sri Chinmoy The Peace Meditation at the United Nations.

Held 17 April in the Dag Hammarskjold Auditorium, eager listeners applauded and cheered in appreciation of “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face“, “Amazing Grace” and others.

The audience joined her in singing “Imagine“, at Ms. Flack’s request.

One observer commented he didn’t think there was a dry eye in the house after that song.

Sri Chinmoy played some of his own compositions on the Indian bamboo flute and, at the conclusion of the programme, presented Ms. Flack with a souvenir 40th anniversary peace medal in appreciation of her inspiring songs.

In the audience in support of Ms. Flack was her friend record producer and songwriter Narada Michael Walden and his wife, Anukampa. Mr. Walden won the 1988 Grammy Award for Producer of the Year and an Emmy for his song, “One Moment in Time”, composed for the 1988 Olympics.

More to be added when available.
