1 January                  -Inauguration of a series of “peace swims” by members of the Peace Meditation to focus attention on the United Nations International Year of peace, held on Miya jima Island in Hiroshima, Japan
12 January                -Participation in reception held for Akishige Matsumoto, head of Japan Republic Association, with Sri Chinmoy as guest of honour
24 January               -Closing ceremony of 3,200-mile solo transcontinental peace run-first American sports event commemorating the United Nations International Year of Peace
6 February                 -Participation in National Prayer Breakfast along with United States President Reagan, Members of the Cabinet, Judiciary and Congress, and the Diplomatic Corps, with Sri Chinmoy as invited clergy
7 February                -Participation in programme for National Day of Grenada
7 March                        – Meeting with Dr. Matina Horner, President of Radcliffe College
15 March                   -Inauguration of first Sri Chinmoy Peace Mile running course, established by the Greater London Council in Battersea Park, London, to celebrate the United Nations International Year of Peace
9 April                         -Meeting with Dr. Karan Singh, former Indian Cabinet Minister and founder of the Virat Hindu Samaj
14 April                      -Special meditation to celebrate the 16th anniversary of the Peace Meditation at the United Nations
6 May                           -Memorial prayer service held for New York Congressman Joseph P. Addabbo, one of the founders of the Peace Meditation at the U.S. Congress

25 and 26 June             -Two-day event honouring world-class athletes and former Olympians
29 June                     -“Peace Run for the United Nations”, l8-mile commemorative relay run from the site of the first U.N. headquarters in Lake Success, Long Island, to New York headquarters
11 July                          -Farewell tribute to U.N. Assistant-Secretary-General Dr. Robert Muller
12 and 13 July-           ‘Peace-Oneness-Run” for the International Year of Peace from U.N. Headquarters to Albany, and participation in the International Bazaar
13 July                            -First Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence Award presented to “cardiac runner” Joe Michaels
